Last week Tony began to organize his stuff getting ready for his departure on Monday, Feb. 15. On Friday, Feb. 12 Logan had his tonsils removed. We did this so close to Tony's departure for two reasons:
1) Tony wanted to be there for Logan and me
2) We thought we should get it done before we officially moved on to COBRA (which we didn't have to do yet but I'll save that long subject for another blog).
It seemed routine enough. However, Logan didn't seem to recover any over the weekend, as a matter of fact, he got worse not better. On Sunday evening he had a high temperature and seemed very lethargic so onto the ER we went. You know you have a sick child on your hands when you get to skip in front of the other dozen or so people who were already waiting in the ER. I can't say enough good things about the triage nurse at Presby Huntersville.
.. I can't remember her name to save my life but she was quick and efficient and had an ER doctor in to see us within 5 minutes. Logan's temp was 104.1 and his oxygen level was at 88%. He had pneumonia covering parts of both lungs. The ER doctor believes Logan aspirated during his tonsillectomy which lead to the pneumonia. He was admitted to the hospital with less than 24 hours before Tony's flight to London.
The next day Logan was better,
his fever was way down but oxygen level was only up to 92%. So we were told we would be there another day. I know it wasn't a hard choice, or even a choice at all for Tony to cancel his flight to London but it had to have been a strange let down. He had been preparing to leave and eager to start his new work adventure which not only had to be put on hold but on hold because of a sick child.
Side note: Logan thought it was really cool that his foot was "glowing" and asked me to take a picture of it.
Logan came home on Tuesday. Tony rescheduled his flight for Saturday. We went for a check up with Logan's pediatrician on Friday, Feb. 19 and she heard a "crackle". She sent us for x-rays. The pneumonia was back in the right lung (curious since the dr who released us on Tuesday said his lungs were all clear!). His peds doctor thinks the hospital didn't put Logan on strong enough antibiotics for his at home care. So my poor little guy had to get two shots of Rocephin which is quite painful. Logan is doing much better today so it feels like the worst is behind us (fingers crossed).
In a moment of deja vu, Tony started getting his stuff ready to go five days past the original date. He packed as much stuff as he could get into his suitcases. He said his golf clubs were a necessity so in lieu of more clothes he took his clubs. I feel certain he will play lots of golf between now and July!
So after a bit of a set back, Tony is now on his way to London. Let the adventure begin.....
